According to Blake’s Alamanac of the Christian Church, March 16 is the day Robert Bowman was born in 1915. Bowman was one of the co-founders of Far East Broadcasting Company in 1945. He was the baritone voice in the Haven of Rest quartet, and parlayed that group’s popularity into ever-increasing ministry opportunities. Together with John Broger (b. 1913), Bowman organized a vast network of stations to broadcast Christian messages into closed countries in Asia. Far East Broadcasting Company was the flagship company for missionary radio, starting in the Philippines and reaching deep into the People’s Republic of China by the 1950s. FEBC is still active today, headquartered in La Mirada, California and ministering not only in Asia but in Latin America, Eastern Europe, and Australia.
